According to the NY Times, the owner of the I Can Has Cheez Burger rakes in about $5,600 a month in advertisements. What does the site feature? Images of cats (and sometimes other animals) captioned with silly forum-inspired language (abbreviated or flat out misspellings and funny-sounding grammar) like the one below.
Cats (as well as dogs) seem to be big traffic generators, which makes sense because photos of pets easily evoke sympathetic responses from the audience. We came across the controversial Cats That Look Like Hitler site (note: such cats are called “kitlers”), which also seems to be attracting a great deal of attention online. Perhaps cats are the path to making some bucks on the web?
