How McCormick's US Shopify Build Became the Blueprint for Schwartz UK

On August 25th, we launched Schwartz UK, the UK herbs and spices brand from McCormick & Company, on Shopify. It's the latest international site we've built on the same foundation as our US redesign for McCormick, reimagined with Schwartz branding for UK shoppers.

One Shopify Cart for Every Brand

When we first started working with McCormick, online purchasing lived on a single ecommerce site, while brands like Frank's RedHot and Cholula each had their own site without ecommerce. As we planned redesigns for each brand site, it became clear that the same team was updating all of them. A single Shopify instance, meaning one store and admin behind all brands, would give that team a more cohesive way to work. Each brand would keep its own dedicated site and identity, and all of them would share one cart and checkout, so shoppers could buy across brands in a single order.

After strategy and discovery in 2024, we launched the US site in 2025 with every brand under one Shopify instance and direct-to-consumer (DTC) ecommerce built in. Shoppers can move between brand experiences and check out in one cart, and McCormick's team manages every brand from one place instead of logging into separate stores. Shopify's team has since connected with us to learn more about this multi-brand approach.

A Module Library That Travels

McCormick is a global company, and many of its brands have regional counterparts. In the UK, that's Schwartz. Rather than start each international site from scratch, we use the US build as the foundation.

The module library we created is what makes this work. McCormick's team thinks of it as a set of building blocks: as long as they have modules for reviews, product spotlights, recipe spotlights, and grids, they can build the pages they need without waiting on a new template. That same library carries into every region, so each rollout follows a lighter process:

  • A short design phase to apply the regional brand's identity
  • Theme migration, following the US foundation
  • Styling updates across the module library
  • Content work with the regional team
  • Launch

That process has brought McCormick Germany, Vahiné, a French baking brand, and now Schwartz UK onto Shopify. We also supported McCormick's team on the launch of McCormick India, which they led.

Scoping What Each Region Needs

Every region shares the same foundation, but requirements vary from market to market. Before each rollout, we work through a scoping exercise with McCormick's core digital team, who manage the sites day to day and hold most of the key requirements. Regional brand teams weigh in on content and local details.

Those conversations cover questions like whether the region will launch with DTC, which apps the site depends on (such as PowerReviews for ratings and reviews and Shopify Translate & Adapt for translation and localization), and which languages the site needs to support. For most regions, the work is carrying the existing build over with brand-level changes rather than rebuilding it.

Schwartz UK on Shopify

Schwartz UK brings the same multi-brand model to the UK. Alongside Schwartz's herbs, spices, seasonings, and recipe mixes, the site hosts UK pages for Frank's RedHot, Cholula, French's, and Old Bay, and shoppers can buy directly from the site. Recipes, how-to articles, and seasonal collections all run on the same modules McCormick's team uses in the US, styled in Schwartz's own look.

Each launch brings more of McCormick's portfolio onto one platform. Regional teams share the same tools, each new site starts from a proven foundation, and more regions are already in progress.
