The Role

We're seeking a Freelance Graphic Designer to collaborate with our team on an ongoing, retainer-based basis. This role focuses on designing and executing digital experiences across e-commerce, email, marketplaces, and other omnichannel touchpoints.

You'll work closely with our team to create engaging digital experiences, extend visual systems across new assets, and apply e-commerce and UX best practices across all deliverables.

The ideal candidate is a creative problem solver who combines strong visual design skills with an understanding of user experience and digital commerce. At Barrel, design is both strategic and creative. Our designers help shape intuitive user experiences through wireframes, user flows, design systems, and thoughtful visual execution.

Responsibilities

• Design digital experiences across e-commerce websites, email, marketplaces, and other omnichannel touchpoints
• Extend and apply existing brand guidelines across a variety of digital assets
• Translate creative briefs into high-quality, functional designs that align with client goals and audiences
• Research and apply e-commerce, UX, and digital best practices across all projects
• Collaborate with creative, development, and project management teams throughout the design process
• Create responsive designs and prepare files for development handoff
• Build and maintain organized Figma files, style guides, and component libraries
• Support client meetings and presentations when needed

Qualifications

• 4+ years of agency or freelance experience in digital design preferred
• Experience designing digital experiences across websites, email, and e-commerce
• Experience with email design or marketplace design (including Amazon, Walmart, and other online marketplaces) is a plus
• Strong proficiency in Figma, including component systems and prototyping
• Experience using AI tools such as Claude and other emerging design technologies
• Strong understanding of responsive, user-centered web design and digital best practices
• Ability to confidently explain design decisions, platform capabilities, and implementation considerations
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate with clients and cross-functional teams
• Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects, timelines, and priorities
• Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality work
• Self-motivated, proactive, and comfortable working independently in a remote-first environment
