Barrel partners with CPG brands to elevate their online presence and drive growth through e-commerce, website optimization, email, SEO, and content strategy. As a globally distributed team, we are united by a mission to help clients succeed through thoughtful, customer-centric solutions. Our goal is to create experiences that resonate, add value, and build lasting connections with their communities.
The Role
The Partnerships Manager creates value for Barrel’s clients through partnerships. That means two things: when a CPG brand needs help, the people in the commerce ecosystem already think of Barrel, and when a client needs something outside what Barrel does, Barrel has a trusted partner to bring to the table. New business and top standing in partner programs follow from doing both well. This is a relationship role built on consistency. The person in it shows up for partners the way we want partners to show up for us, and treats every conversation as a chance to learn what brands are struggling with and where Barrel can help.
Responsibilities
- Identify the partners that matter most to Barrel’s clients and build a go-to-market plan for each: the people to know, what we bring them, what we expect back, and how we win together.
- Build real relationships with the account, solutions, and customer teams at those partners, and keep Barrel top of mind through consistent, useful contact over years, not quarters.
- Own how Barrel’s story and strongest work get told to partner teams, so they know exactly when and why to bring us in.
- Turn relationships into opportunities: connect the dots between partners, prospects, and clients; ask for introductions; and package ways Barrel and a partner can help a brand together.
- Track the relationship both ways, what Barrel sends partners and what comes back, and hold both sides to it.
- Work with the Marketing Manager on activations: surface partner opportunities that fit Barrel’s positioning, flag who to bring in as a co-sponsor and why, and manage the partner side of the relationship while Marketing runs the campaign.
- Build and maintain a vetted network of partners that fill gaps outside Barrel’s services, so a client with a fulfillment, financing, or operations question gets a trusted introduction rather than a shrug.
- Be the internal point of contact for partner recommendations on client work, and bring what you learn from partners back to the team.
- Own Barrel’s standing in the partner programs that matter to our clients, including the requirements to reach and hold top tiers.
- Manage partner-sourced leads through qualification and handoff to Business Development.
- Set the plan for the function, and report on it to the CEO.
Skills
- Prioritizes. A partnerships role generates endless small asks. You decide which ones matter, move the important work forward every week, and let the rest wait without guilt.
- Entrepreneurial. You bring the plan and the update; nobody has to ask where things are. You can point to something you built or fixed that nobody asked you to, and you are open about where it went wrong.
- Organized. You run the function off a plan, keep it current, and know at any moment where each initiative stands and what moves this week.
- Creates value for partners first. You send referrals, make introductions, and show up for their initiatives before you ask for anything back.
- Comfortable steering a partner toward what will help both sides’ clients, and saying no when an activation won’t.
- Writes clearly and follows through.
Experience
- Three or more years in partnerships, channel, or alliances at an agency or an e-commerce technology company.
- Deep familiarity with the Shopify ecosystem: how its account, solutions, and customer teams work with agencies, how the partner program is structured, and how the surrounding app and service partners fit together.
- Has built partner relationships that produced pipeline and can speak to specific results.
- CPG or DTC brand experience is a plus.
Compensation
Salary range for this fully remote position is $100k to $125k, depending on experience and location, plus a bonus and commission structure tied to partner-sourced results.
